GBR Worlds 2013 Qualifyers - Provisional List

The table is available here GBR Worlds Qualifying at Jul 12

The ranking has been calculated from qualifying regatta results, ignoring any non-BDA members and helms who have qualified through another route. The minimum points from an Edinburgh Cup are one point whereas the minimum points from any of the BDA regional regattas are two points. Those not attending a regatta will be awarded one more point for that regatta than the total number of participating BDA helmsmen in all of the ranking regattas; in this instance that figure is 51. Selection is based on a participant’s three best results, calculated from the helm's qualifying regatta results added together on the low points scoring system per the ISAF Rulebook.

As you will be aware, selection by the BDA is required to enter the Worlds. The number of boats qualified to enter is determined by the IDA, under Appendices 9 and 10 in the International Dragon Class Rules (www.intdragon.org). Currently, based on the size of our fleet we are entitled to select 11 boats, plus 50% (6 boats) of that entitlement, at the discretion of the IDA if there is space. Selection will be based on the helms performance. Helms wishing to be considered for a place must apply in writing to the Hon Sec by 30th September 2012, be paid up members of the BDA and be ISAF registered.

Of the available places, three may be awarded at the sole discretion of the BDA Officers; two such wildcard entries have been allocated to Martin Payne and Poul-Ricard Hoj-Jensen. The remainder will be awarded to the top nine applicants, with up to a further five if permitted by the IDA. In addition, the current World Champion, Lawrie Smith, has an automatic entry, as do GBR sailors in the top 20 of the final 2012 International Ranking List, as at 31st October 2012. Currently we have two helms that fall into this category. They are shown on the table but not against the BDA allocation.

The BDA will notify via e-mail all applicants for places regarding their allocation, by 31st October 2012. If all the available places have not been filled the BDA may allocate surplus places to helms wishing to enter, at its discretion, until the closing date for entries. Depending on total global entries received for the Worlds, there may be the possibility of the IDA releasing additional places to the host nation. Again, places will be allocated at the BDAs discretion, on a first come, first served basis.
