In January of this year Tim Tavinor joined Lawrie Smith and Ossie Stewart in becoming the first British crew ever to win the Dragon World Championship when they snatched victory in the closing moments of the final race in Melbourne, Australia. Alongside this success on the race track Tim's Burnham-On-Crouch, Essex based company Petticrows Ltd continues to lead the way as undoubtedly the most productive and arguably the most successful Dragon builder in the World. The British contingent put in a good showing at the Cannes Dragon Grand Prix this past weekend with Gavia Wilkinson-Cox, crewed by Mark Hart and Christian Videbaer leading the regatta overall for two days before finally finishing fifth in her brand new boat. Ivan Brandbury, crewed by Martin "Stavros" Payne and Will Willets, won the fourth race of the series and finished thirteenth overall in the hotly contested sixty five boat fleet. Read more »

The 2011 BDA AGM and Dinner, held at the Army & Navy Club, Pall Mall, London, was declared by all to be a huge success. Following welcome drinks Chairman Patrick Gifford brought the meeting to order and kept business moving swiftly to ensure that despite a packed agenda and some lively discussion things ran to time and at 8pm on the dot members adjourned to the dining room. Lawrie Smith GBR 751 can add the Dragon World Championship to his magnificent sailing CV after squeezing over the finish line yesterday, by less than half a metre, to secure the 6th place required by him and his team aboard "Alfie", which gave them the title over Markus Wieser UKR 7 on count-back! Reviewing The British Dragon Fleets

With the demise of some Dragon fleets around the country, the Committee felt it would be appropriate to recognize the following fleets, subject to ratification at the next AGM. Read more »


The Annual General Meeting of the BDA will take place at the Farmers Club, 3 Whitehall Court, London SW1A 2EL at 6.00 pm on Friday 21st January 2011. It will be followed by the annual BDA Dinner, which is open to all members and their guests. All members are strongly encouraged to attend both the AGM of your association as well as joining in with friends for an evening of entertainment, in a fresh location and at a price likely to please!
