A Message From Our Sponsor - Aberdeen Asset Management
Aberdeen Asset Management has been involved with Dragons sailing since 2006 when we sponsored the Aberdeen Dragon European Championships, hosted by the Royal Yacht Squadron, in Cowes in June 2006, and became a sponsor of the British Dragon Association for the first time. The following year our links with the class were further strengthened when we became title sponsor of the World Championships held at the Royal St George Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire Dublin Bay. This successful relationship has continued into to 2008 in the form of ongoing sponsorship of the British Dragon Association and title sponsorship of the 2008 Dragon European Championships being held at the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club in Oslo in August.
Aberdeen Asset Management is an independent asset management group and was originally founded in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1983. The Group has 24 offices in 19 countries around the world and employs over 1,500 people. Aberdeen’s investment teams invest worldwide on behalf of clients globally across the three major asset classes in equities, fixed income and property. The Group currently has over £100 billion of assets under management and has been listed on the London Stock Exchange since 1991.
Chief executive of Aberdeen Asset Management, Martin Gilbert said of the Dragons sponsorship “Our sponsorship of the British Dragon class has shown us that even though this classic design is nearly 80 years old, it has maintained its worldwide popularity as a sophisticated, technically-demanding boat to race and consistently attracts the very highest calibre of sailor to its major events."
Dragons sailing is an ideal fit for Aberdeen’s business, the British Dragons association in particular is a prestigious organisation and one which, as a British based company we are extremely proud to be associated with. The upcoming Edinburgh Cup in July and also the East Coast Championship in May and the South Coast Championship in July are also events which we are delighted to be supporting.
