An Invitation from the BCYC Commodore
Dear Classic Dragons
This year we had our 5th British Classic Yacht Club Regatta in Cowes which was very successful and enjoyable, and we are making plans for 2007.
2007 is a big classic year in Cowes. The BCYC has been keeping the pot boiling since the Americas Cup Jubilee Regatta, and now there are some great things happening. From the 15th to 22nd July, the 6 Metre World Championship is being held in Cowes, and the following week is the International Metre Rule Centenary Regatta. This will be attended by all the 6 Metres from the previous week, and many metre yachts, particularly classics from far and wide, including the possibility of larger Metre yachts from the Med., like Tuiga, Cambria, Moonbeam etc.
The British Classic Yacht Club Regatta is scheduled to take place in the same week as the 6 Metre Championship Week. It is also likely that visiting metre yachts attending the IMR Centenary Regatta will do the BCYC regatta too to enhance their visit to Cowes.
We have decided therefore that we shall open out our regatta, and invite certain “Classic Classes” to attend if they wish – which is the purpose of my writing to you. We would like to extend an invitation to the Classic Dragon Class to participate in the Regatta 2007.
The Classic Dragons would be treated very much as their own class, but I hope would enjoy being part of a classic event. I have attached a draft programme for the week.
I started the BCYC as I thought it would give a strong raison d'etre to owning a classic yacht in the UK, and we are very keen to do what we can to help support the classic classes.
Have a look at our website www.britishclassicyachtclub.org and I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely
Tim Blackman
Commodore
