Three Events - Two Winners!
Yes, Yes, Yes Campers... Whilst the current World Champions, GER 996 Tommy Muller, Vincent Hoesch and Max Scheibmair were winning the Marble Head Trophy in Copenhagen. Olaf Sorensen, Shawn Kingston and Martin Payne were winning the Italian Championships in San Remo.
But, too much wind robbed Len Jones, Jamie Lea and Henry Bagnel of the East Coast Champs in Lowestoft, England.
My last report told of the three regatta's taking place over the busy Bank Holiday Weekend of May. Although Vincie was planning on winning all three, not even he could have been in three places at once. So indeed, he did help Tommy to secure the much sought after Marble Head Trophy, in 2nd place sailing DEN 390 was Jens Christensen followed closely by FIN 50 Henrick Dahlamann in 3rd.
Down in sunny San Remo, Olaf Sorensen IRL 190 kept the Irish Flag flying by winning the Italian Championships from a very close and well sailed 2nd place GBR 700 David Palmer and the best Italian team ITA 41 helmed by Paolo Manzoni 3rd.
But, frustration ruled the day back in the UK at Lowestoft, where Len Jones won both races on the windy Saturday only to see Sunday and Monday cancelled through gale force winds, so the series was incomplete. His only consolation as he drove back to his home in Kent is that his superb winning form is still present since winning both events earlier in the year down in Cascais. Standing in 2nd place after two races was Tim Tavinor crewed by Nicola and Thomas Wilton and in 3rd was our illustrious IDA Chairman Mr Robert Campbell, crewed by Matt Walker & Jonathan Hughes.
