Gavia excels at the Primo Cup!
Hi Campers,
For those not yet up to speed with the new daily coverage offered on the IDA Web Site, here is a quick couple of paragraphs on the recent event in Monaco, know as the Primo Cup.
40 Odd Dragons turned up this last weekend to launch their boats in the sunny shadows of the rich and famous tax haven of Monaco. Along with a number of J24's and other French one design classes. About 50% had already sailed in the Ski Vol so we were pleased to see some new faces so early in our Dragon Season. One old face was even more pleasing to see that of Uli Libor, recovering from a very nasty illness.
The winner of the event, Marcus Weiser sailing a fully sponsored Transbunker Dragon, was never in doubt. With a shore crew (which includes Verner Fritz), of more people than are actually sailing their three fully professional boats, it was not surprising to see Marcus catch each major wind shift and win with huge leads in very difficult sailing conditions.
However, the Star of the weekend was our one and only Gavia Wilkinson Cox. Sailing with Peter Barton and current World Champion crew, Vincent Hoesch, she won the last race to confirm her deserved runners up place overall. It was truly testing conditions with huge, indifferent seas and little wind at times, which made helming a nightmare. But Gavia made light work of the conditions and with the odd word of encouragement from Vincie, she sailed brilliantly, to travel home to Cowes with probably her best sailing achievement to date. Well done Gavia..
In 3rd place was Harrow Kniffka crew by Micky Lip, from the Hensiatic Lloyd Team. Now we are off to Cascais...
Higher, Faster, Longer..... Stavros.
