Solent Fleet - AGM and Prize Giving Dinner

The Solent Fleet AGM will be held at 16:00 in the Royal Yacht Squadron Pavilion on 15th November
(As an incentive the RYS are providing Tea and Cake, and those of the fleet who have attended after sailing T&C at the RYS when they have been running the racing - know its a treat!)

An agenda will be circulated to [paid up] fleet members. You are reminded of the class rules that if you wish to put a resolution before the meeting, you must give notice to the Hon sec 2 weeks in advance. Please consider this email address to be proxy for Hon sec, as it is the most efficient communication channel to the management comittee generally, and we would like to know in advance if you are attending the AGM.

The Solent Fleet Prize Giving Dinner and celebration
The eveniing will start at 7:30 with a drinks reception, followed by dinner. Dress code is Black Tie. Cost per person is £35 for pre-dinner fizz and 3 course meal. This does not include wine with dinner as we recognise tastes, budgets and consumption widely diverge in this area! The RYS will provide an attractive wine list and a cash bar with credit card facilities.

As ever you are asked to send the money to class treasurer before the dinner, and confirm your booking by email. Deadline is 7th November, but it would be exceptionally helpful to know as soon as possible who will and won't be attending.

Celebrating the Solent Dragon Fleet in 2008
While all of us are assessing the personal implications of the current market maelstrom, there are celebrations to be had on a more local scale withing our fleet for events over the past year - so lets have a good party on the 15th!

Asa
Our fleet captain did the "I do" to a very lovely Irish lady. (He also floated Asa again for her 50th birthday hurrah!)

Thunder
Great that Mark has come down to race with us a few times, and carried on their tradition of round the island race.

Kedron
Rachel and Gary now have young Natalie as a long and eagerly awaited member of their family.

?????dilema
NIck Jones has just taken possession of a brand new dragon, and sailed it for the first time last weekend.

Fanfare
Hurrah!! Mike Isias is back racing with us, won round the island and has overcome the challenges of mast fitting. The fleet will club together to buy him a tide table so he can get to the starts.

Jerboa
Gavia has had just great great success on the European circuit. (So.we are all plotting to whooooop heerrrass if she dares to come back to Cowes.)

Supremacy
Richard's Dad should be the permanent helm. He is 84 but does much better than the younsters Skelsey and Cullen junior.

Norbert
Canny Chris and Gilly, depart to Bermuda as the UK gets ugly. Meanwhile Duncan's hitched up with the international dragon class's favourite girl, so EVERYONE is following his love life with great interest.

Aimee
Double Cowes Winners. Julia and Graham celebrated by buying several additional floatation devices, and we look forward with great anticipation to their duel in King of Cowes next year.

Cavalier
Tony's kept his hat on all season, despite some unfortunate knocks to the woodwork. In a nail-biting finish he kept Njord at bay, and finished the race 4 seconds a head this Saturday, to take the gun.

Njord
A bit more success on the racecourse this year, and oweing to Chairman Pay's obsession with dragons, Njord gets the prize for turning out with a fleet beating 35 starts.

Crews Union
We welcome several new regular crew to the fleet - Adrian, Mark, Heather, Rosie, John, Chico and Ed - so really hope to see them on the 15th. Its been great to have Roger and Lisa back for the season, and guest appearances from Aileen, Jo, Rudy, Mr Ross, and a fleeting glimpse of that European Rock star Dr John. Particular mention must go to Aileen and Jo for giving us the best laugh and leaving a Daring spinnaker wrapped around the first mark on Saturday.

.....Virago, Fuzzy Duck, Apalala, Aurora, Troika, Ecstatic
There are of course many other personal and racing triumphs to share - so we hope to see as many of you as possible on the 15th.

Regards
Josy
