This guide is intended to make members of the BDA and other users of the BDA website more aware of the varied content in the BDA magazines held on the website and also to make it easier to find articles of particular interest.
General
There are variations in the relationship between the date on the magazine and the dates of the regattas and other activities covered. In particular between 2004 and 2010, per magazine dates the reports are for the previous year because the magazine came out very early in the year of its date. There are no reports for 2010, and the year is missing.
From the magazine dated 2011 onwards and before 2004 the dates and the regatta reports etc are in harmony.
There is no detailed indexation on the most regular items in the magazines. Thus, every Edinburgh Cup, for example, has a report in the appropriate year. Similarly, there is no specifically identified Chairman’s Reports and British regional Championships or BDA accounts, lists of forthcoming regattas and Boats for Sale. This doesn’t mean that those articles aren’t worth reading, especially for anyone interested in the history of the class .
The Chairman’s reports give an interesting insight into the issues of the day and the regatta reports show the variety of sailors and conditions that have been found at regattas over the years. The various tuning and tactics articles, particularly those by David Dellenbaugh, have stood the test of time very well. Graham Bailey’s article on the Solent is also an excellent read for anyone intending to compete there.
