Discover the Dragon Class – Timeless Elegance, Competitive Spirit

The Dragon is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and prestigious keelboats in the world. With over 1,500 boats racing across more than 25 countries, it is also one of the largest and most competitive international sailing classes.
First designed in 1929, the Dragon has stood the test of time, combining classic elegance with exhilarating racing. Today, the class continues to thrive at the highest level of international sailing, from World Championships to vibrant local fleet racing here in the UK.
The British Dragon Association (BDA) was founded in 1956 to represent and support Dragon sailing across the UK. With more than 300 passionate members, the BDA brings together sailors of all ages and abilities, united by their love of this iconic boat and the camaraderie it inspires both on and off the water.
While steeped in history, Dragons are very much a modern racing class. The latest boats are built using cutting-edge technology and advanced materials, while thoughtful class rules ensure that a well-maintained older Dragon can still compete on equal terms with a brand-new model. For those who love tradition, there are also dedicated events for Classic and Vintage Dragons, many of which remain highly competitive on today’s racecourse.
Whether you’re an experienced keelboat racer looking for world-class competition or a sailor seeking a welcoming community and the chance to be part of one of sailing’s most enduring classes, the Dragon offers it all.
We have fleets across the UK in Abersoch, Aldeburgh, Burnham-On-Crouch, Medway, Scotland and Solent.
