We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, who took a great interest in Bluebottle and the Dragons. Our thoughts are with Her Majesty and her immediate family at this time. May she rest in peace.
The late Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip and their family shared a great love of sailing.
On her marriage to Prince Philip in 1948 she was gifted with a Dragon named Bluebottle by the members of the Island Sailing Club.
Bluebottle played a great part in racing competition under various sailing masters, finishing second in 1954 with Lt. Commander Hewitt, second again with Graham Mann in 1956 and third with Ross Coles in 1960.
